Power to the Jim fans around the world!!

The letters were emailed on March 8, 2000!

We Have received Our First Response!!

It is from John Pavlik, Director of Communications at the Academy!!
Dear Marissa and Paige,

I was suprised myself when Jim Carrey was not nominated for "The Truman Show". I haven't seen "Man On The Moon"- I was never much of an Andy Kaufman fan so I couldn't work up any enthusiasm for going to a movie about him- but there certainly seemed to be wide acknowledgement that Carrey had done an excellent job and certainly the quotes you have gathered would indicate that as well.

The Actors Branch nominates from among its own so my guess would be that there are a lot of names nominated. When you select your five favorites for Best Picture, for instance, you are picking from a field of 245 eligible films. But there are five to ten times as many actors to choose among, making it much harder to slip into the top five. If you want to see just how many, go to: www.oscars.org/72acadmeyawards/reminder72pre.html and click on any film.

There are 1,321 voting members in the Actors Branch, and unfortunately, as in any democratic election, there is no way to know why a group votes the way it does. In the world of politics, trying to figure out why in the world voters vote the way they do has become a big business in its own right. It is the same way with us. We don't know why our members vote the way they do, we only know how they vote. I wish I could give you a better answer.

Carrey'll make it one of these days, I hope.

Thank you for taking the time to gather all of the material and forwarding it to us.

Sincerely,

John M. Pavlik

Director of Communications

Here is a draft of the letter WE SENT!
March 6, 2000

To Whom It May Concern,

Greetings! We, Marissa and Paige, are the creators of "Rally For Jim". We are here today to show the overwhelming support for Mr. Jim Carrey.

Considering the fact that you have probably heard so many opinions on this subject, we are here to assure you that we are not trying to cause problems nor are we going to behave like irrate fans. We are simply the public reacting to a situation that we would like to speak about.

On February 15, 2000, disbelief, disappointment, and anger were shared by journalists, critics, and movie fans alike. That day marked the second consecutive year that Jim Carrey's talent was overlooked for an Oscar nomination. For what was considered to be a flawless and mesmerizing performance. His interpretation and portrayal of Andy Kaufman was so brilliant and convincing that audiences left the theaters spellbound and believing that they had, in fact, been watching Kaufman himself.

As a show of support for Jim Carrey, his fans have bonded together to express their feelings on the grievous oversight of one of the most talented, dedicated, and versitile actors to grace the big screen. The following emails sent after this one will contain messages and quotes that we have narrowed down in hopes that you will read them.

Our time and dedication to this project has been quite extensive. Hoping that our efforts pay off, please read our rally page emails and let our people finally have the answers to their questions. The question on everyone's mind seems to be: Why?

We sincerly thank you for taking the time to read this letter and for listening to what we had to say. Please take a few more seconds to read our following emails so the rest of the members of our rally may also be heard.

Thank you once again.

Sincerely,

Marissa and Paige

That was the opening page. Then we have taken all of your messages and put them into groups of 5 and will send them in different emails. So total, the Academy will be receiving about 8-9 emails from our rally. We did that so the Academy would take notice.

If you would like, leave us your thoughts about our letter or how you feel about the responses we get at the message board here.
