Name: James Eugene Carrey (Eugene "keeps him humble")
Birthplace: Newmarket, Ontario, Canada
Birthdate: January 17, 1962
Family: Percy (father); Kathleen (mother); Pat, John & Rita (siblings); Jane (daughter, with Melissa Womer)

Born in Newmarket, Ontario, Canada in 1962, Carrey found his calling at an early age, performing in front of classmates in elementary school. Finding out that to overcome shyness, he could goof around, he began to entertain his classmates. The same act that caused laughter at home, could work at school too! At age 15 he began performing at Yuk Yuk's, a famous Toronto comedy club, and continued performing in clubs all over Canada until age 19, when he packed his bags and moved to Los Angeles.

Soon after becoming a regular at Mitzi Shore's Comedy Store, he was put on tour by comedian Rodney Dangerfield, who had caught his act and was impressed by the young talent.

His life was going good until his father was fired from his accounting job. All of Jim’s family had to get a job at a factory as janitors and security guards. Jim dropped out of high school to try and help support his family. The Carrey family was a bitter site to see. They were all so miserable from working at the factory that one day they all quit. This meant they had to move out of the company house so they had no shelter. The family had to live in a VW van. At one point Jim’s oldest sister let them pitch a tent in her back yard.

The only way the family kept there sanity was Jim’s jokes. Jim, no matter what the situation, would cheer the family up. When his grandparents came over his Grandfather would get drunk, take Jim’s father in a corner and tell him what a loser he was. His dad, being the nice person he was, would just stand there and take the insults but when the grandparents left Jim would get up and do impressions of them and make fun of them to make his dad feel better.

One day Jim decided to put his talent to good use and go to a comedy club. Jim and his dad prepared his routine. Jim practiced it over and over until he was sure he had it perfect. His mother dressed him up in a yellow polyester suit. When he got onstage to do his act at Yuk Yuk’s comedy club he bombed. He bombed big time. The owner of the club was backstage with a microphone saying things like "Totally Boring " and playing excerpts from Jesus Christ Super Star were it says "Crucify him, crucify him." Jim was booed off the stage.

After two years Jim returned to Yuk Yuk’s and was great. He became a regular comedian at the club. After a while of doing Ontario clubs Jim decided to move to Hollywood. When he got there he started calling all the stars he met in Canada who told him to call them if he comes to LA. When he called them they all said "Sorry, I don’t have room." He then did The Mask, Dumb and Dumber, and Batman Forever. He became famous after having all these big hits. On the set of Dumb and Dumber he met Lauren Holly and they started dating.

They eventually married but divorced not long after. Just like the rest of us, Jim has relationship problems sometimes.

He has continued with his stretch of great films such as: Liar Liar, Me, Myself, & Irene, Grinch, Majestic, Man on the Moon, Bruce Almighty, and Eternal Sunshine.
Thank you Jim for sharing your talent with the world.
